Otter Creek’s Dark Specials: Russian Imperial Stout and Sea Otter Baltic Porter:
So last weekend I visited Vermont and, like every visit to Vermont, stopped by the Otter Creek/Wolaver’s brewery for some samples. Well to my surprise there were too tall-boy specials, as seen here.
The Baltic Porter was pretty good. Incredibly smooth with more flavor than I remember right now… but the Russian Imperial Stout was really fantastic - and considerably more memorable. It has a distinct coffee flavor, but like, the organic good stuff, not the crappy end-of-the-pot-at-Dunkin’ stuff. What impressed me most about it was that it finishes with a little hoppy flavor. I’m usually bored by Stouts because of the weak (aka smooth) finish - but the Russian Imperial has a little hoppy kick at the end which makes it excitingly drinkable for non-dark beer lovers. All in all - awesome trip.
Oh and get ready for another Otter Creek special later this weekend - I brought another six pack home of a new brew… Cheers- Zach
